The Nordstrom Spelling Bee is coming up in January. Your child’s Friday Folder contains a list of 100 words to study for the Spelling Bee. It is on a bright yellow sheet attached to the homework for the holiday break.
During the break, your child should read everyday. There is a reading log to complete attached to the homework. Also, be sure to keep working on your plant journal. Also, practice your math facts so you are sharp for the first Rocket Math test when we return. Students have a level to practice in their Friday Folders. It is on blue paper. Just 5 minutes of practice a day will make a difference.
The highlight of our week was our field trip to the Children’s Discovery Museum. The students helped write the blog post about the trip. Please go to the blog tab on this website to read more. On Friday, we looked at pictures of our trip and wrote individual paragraphs about it.
In math we continued with our subtraction with regrouping lessons. Students even participated in a math skit using the neighbor poem to help them to remember when to regroup.
We played “A Trip to the North Pole,” a game associated with The Polar Express. We also watched the movie after reading the book to compare the two. Students made reindeer sandwiches, frosted Christmas Tree cones, and reindeer food during our holiday celebration on Friday afternoon. The reindeer food is in their backpack. It includes a poem that explains to sprinkle it outside on Christmas Eve.
Each student also received a present from me, which is in the Friday Folder. Many students also gave me gifts, which I brought home to open. I do appreciate your thoughtfulness in remembering me at this time of year.
It is a special time of year to spend with family and friends. I am looking forward to spending time with my daughter who is visiting this whole week. Also, I will go down to Los Angeles to visit my parents and other family and friends in SoCal after the New Year. In addition, I will spend some time preparing for the last half of the school year. Mrs. Neal gave us two great books on teaching Common Core to enjoy during our break.
It is truly my hope that you have a Merry Christmas and/or a joyful holiday. I am looking forward to seeing my wonderful students on January 6. In the meantime Happy New Year!
