This week we learned about fun, sharing, and good manners through our story called Julius. In the story Maya receives a pig from Alaska as a gift from her Granddaddy. Maya’s parents don’t like the pig, but they let her keep it because she loves Julius. Maya and Julius do lots of fun thing together and in the end, Julius learns to be a little more polite. The students learned how to use the Accelerated Reader (AR) system and they all took a test on Julius. Follow the AR links on this website to check your child’s test scores. You child’s user name and password are on the letter I sent home in the packet I gave out at Back to School Night. But if you cannot find it, your child should know it. You can also send me an email and I can give it to you.
In math we worked on subtraction strategies. We also began to learn the Rocket Math procedure. This is our math facts practice program. Go to the Rocket Math tab to learn more. Students brought home their first Rocket Math test in the Friday Folder. If they passed, a new level is attached for students to practice for the next test. If they did not pass, students should practice the same level for the next try. We will usually do Rocket Math on Mondays and Thursdays.
Thank you to everyone who came to Back To School Night. I hope you were able to learn a little more about our classroom and what we will be doing this school year. We are putting together a class contact list, so if you did not attend, please return the orange card that went home in the Friday Folder. That will allow us to add you to the contact list.
