We read about the first Thanksgiving and learned that a Native American named Squanto helped the Pilgrims survive in the New World. Ask your child what Squanto told the Pilgrims to plant with the corn to make it grow.
Also, we made turkey glyphs about our own Thanksgiving plans. They have been laminated and students took them home as a special Thanksgiving placemat.
In our skills lessons we learned spelling words with “kn,” “wh,” “wr,” and “qu.” Also, we sorted words with the long i sound into the various spelling alternatives for the sound. In addition, we learned about common and proper nouns. Finally, we learned to capitalize the first letter in proper nouns and to always capitalize the word I.
