In addition, we learned about four Native American groups that lived in different parts of North America. These were the the Delaware, Navajo, Osage and Shasta people groups. We compared their homes, clothing, food, and mode of travel. We learned how the Native Americans used natural resources to make the things they needed to survive.
We enjoyed a readers theater presentation of “The Mayflower Crossing.” We learned to identify cause and effect as we read about the Pilgrim’s journey from England to Plymouth. We discovered that a storm at sea caused the Pilgrims to change their route and the effect of that change was the Pilgrims settling further north than they had originally planned.
Here are some questions you can ask your child:
- Why did the Pilgrims leave England to come to America?
- What would you do if you had to travel on a ship across the ocean for 9 weeks?
- What were some of the natural resources the Native Americans used?
