Fairy tales have unique characteristics. We began the unit by discussing what makes a story a fairy tale. As we continue the unit we will be adding to this discussion. Students will be writing their own fairy tale as well.
You will find a list of recommended books for fairy tales attached to the take home letter.
We also began our unit on Physical Science. We discussed position words such as above, below, behind, near, far, left right. Then we described the location of different objects using these words.
In math we have been reviewing adding and subtracting within 20. The objective of this unit is to make significant progress towards fluency with sums and differences within 20. We use manipulatives, drawings, and collaboration to build understanding. Students are expected to be able to defend their answers by using drawings and equations to solve problems. It is important that students follow all directions on the homework pages to show they understand the problem. The expectation in both classwork and homework is that students be able to explain their answer using words, drawings, or equations. This helps deepen students' understanding of numbers and build fluency with number facts.
Don't forget that Monday is Labor Day and there is no school. See you on Tuesday. Please leave me a comment or an email to let me know you are reading my blog. Thanks and have a great weekend.
