This week we celebrated Earth Day by studying our planet’s natural resources and how we can protect the Earth. We read about different ways kids are helping save the earth including collecting items for recycling, planting trees, and cleaning beaches. Students also learned ways they can reduce, reuse, and recycle to save the Earth. Ask your child for some ideas on how to reduce the amount of water your family uses. Or, find out how he or she can reuse or recycle something rather than throw it away.
We began our topic on money in math. We learned to determine the value of a set of coins and compare the value of more than one group of coins. We also figured out ways to show the same amount using different sets of coins and different ways to make $1.00 using coins. We learned the correct way to show an amount of money using the dollar sign and decimal point. Students practiced writing amounts of money using the correct formatting. You should see examples of this work in your child’s Friday Folder.
For the next two weeks students will be working on an animal report and diorama project as part of their homework. Please see the Animal Report tab for more information.
