Also, we studied economics. We found out that people earn an income from the work they do. They use that income to buy things they want or need. We learned that everyone needs food, shelter and clothing. We found out that items that are made or grown to be sold are goods and that doing work or helping someone is a service. Also, we learned that a budget is the amount of money allowed for a purpose. We learned people can do extra jobs to earn more income so that they can afford to pay for items not within their budget. A good lesson for this time of year.
Students do have a reading log to complete during the break. In addition, there is a list of Spelling Bee words to study. Also, students need to keep up with their math facts memorization. We are working on adding and subtracting larger numbers. Without a solid foundation in basic math facts, students will struggle with learning these skills. I cannot emphasize enough the importance of memorizing these math facts. It is essential that students know all the addition and subtraction facts with sums and differences to 20. It is very difficult for them to do the math lessons without this solid foundation.
