We worked on community building in our class this week. Students interviewed a classmate and made a Venn Diagram to compare each of their preferences. Have your child tell you about the student he or she interviewed.
We worked on graphing skills as we got to know each other better. We made graphs that told about our favorite colors, animal, sport, and food. This helped us see the many ways we are alike and different. We learned to used the graphs to make statements about the students in the class. Here are some examples of mathematical language we were using:
- Blue was chosen by the most students as their favorite color.
- No one chose lacrosse as their favorite sport.
- Four fewer students have dolphin as a favorite animal than cats.
- Popcorn and pizza are favorite foods of the same number of students.
Please go through your child's Friday Folder. Review the work that is included. In addition, you will find a signature page that needs to be signed and returned on Monday. The Friday Folder should be returned on Monday.
Your child will receive a homework folder on Monday. This week the homework folder is due back on Friday. In the coming weeks we will have daily math homework, so the folder will travel back and forth daily.
